RESEARCH PROJECTS

Master's Thesis

"'In case his vision should ever become dim': Annie Lee Jackson’s Wise Blood | 2016

This thesis tracks all mentions of Flannery O'Connor's character Annie Lee Jackson in her first novel, Wise Blood, through the author's unpublished manuscripts and then through the published novel. The paper attempts to prove that Hazel's mother, one of the most underrated characters of the novel, remains a major character even after O'Connor omitted much of her story. This work will also discuss subjects such as criticism regarding Annie Lee Jackson, John Huston's film adaptation by the same name, Flannery O'Connor's influences (misogynistic and otherwise), and the novel as a potential foil for the author's life.

Undergraduate  Thesis

Bachelor's Thesis

"'The Weight of Centuries Lies on Children': A Study of Flannery O'Connor's Children" | 2013

This paper discusses four of O'Connor's short stories which include children characters. The paper attempts to prove that O'Connor uses her children characters, which may at first seem like delinquents or duds, to greatly influence her adult characters.
